Your Pet’s Comfort Comes First

When your pet needs emergency or urgent care, every minute matters — but so does compassion. At City Paws Emergency Care, we understand how stressful it can be when your pet is hurt or unwell. Our experienced veterinary team is here 24/7 to provide immediate attention, accurate diagnostics, and expert medical treatment in a calm, supportive environment.

Our priority is to make sure you understand every step of your pet’s care — from triage to treatment and recovery — so you feel confident and supported throughout the process.

Your Visit at City Paws Emergency Care

Most pet illnesses and injuries are urgent but not life-threatening and can be treated right here in our hospital. In many cases, pets are stabilized, treated, and discharged home the same day.

For pets requiring surgery or more intensive monitoring, our team provides comprehensive stabilization, pain control, IV fluids, and advanced diagnostics. As a fully staffed 24-hour hospital, we are equipped to hospitalize and provide continuous monitoring and supportive care whenever your pet needs it.

Our goal is simple: to get your pet the care they need, as quickly and safely as possible.

Our Process

1. Triage and Initial Assessment

All pets are seen on a triage basis — meaning the most critical patients are treated first. When you arrive, one of our veterinary nurses will greet you and quickly assess your pet’s condition. They’ll gather basic information and record vital signs such as weight, temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate.

If your pet is stable, you may be asked to wait briefly while our team assists patients in more serious condition. If your pet needs immediate care, a veterinarian will begin treatment right away.

2. Comprehensive Exam & Consultation

Once your pet is stable, you’ll meet with the attending veterinarian, who will perform a thorough physical exam and discuss your pet’s medical history and current symptoms. Together, you’ll review possible causes, recommended testing, and treatment options.

We take time to explain everything in clear, simple terms so you can make informed decisions about your pet’s care.

3. Treatment Plan & Estimate

Before any procedures or treatments begin, our team will provide a detailed treatment plan and cost estimate, including a range of expected charges. We’ll review each step with you and discuss available payment options to help you make the best choice for your pet and your family.

4. Diagnostics & Treatment

Depending on your pet’s condition, we may perform in-house diagnostic tests such as bloodwork, X-rays, or ultrasound to quickly identify the cause of illness or injury. Once results are available, the veterinarian will discuss findings and treatment options, which may include:

  • IV fluids for hydration or stabilization
  • Pain management
  • Anti-nausea or antibiotic medications
  • Wound or injury care
  • Oxygen therapy or other supportive treatments

Our medical team works with skill and urgency, ensuring every patient receives focused, compassionate care.

5. At-Home Recovery

If your pet is well enough to recover at home, you’ll receive written discharge instructions outlining medications, follow-up recommendations, and guidance for at-home care.

We’ll also send your pet’s medical records directly to your primary care veterinarian to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Our team is happy to answer any follow-up questions by phone or email during business hours — and you’re always welcome to return for a recheck if needed.

6. If Overnight or Specialty Care Is Needed

As a 24-hour emergency hospital, we are able to provide overnight hospitalization and advanced care on-site.

Our services include IV fluids, round-the-clock monitoring and nursing care, oxygen therapy, and other supportive treatments to keep your pet stable and comfortable.

What to Expect When Your Pet Is Hospitalized

Medical Care & Monitoring

Your pet will be monitored and treated based on medical priority and clinical condition. Treatment plans may change as your pet responds to care. If significant changes occur, our team will make reasonable efforts to contact you using the preferred contact information on file.

Patient Updates

Routine updates are provided at least twice daily (around 10 AM and 10 PM), with doctor communication at least once per day. Update timing may vary due to the nature of emergency medicine or changes in your pet’s condition.

Communication

Updates may be provided by phone or text, depending on urgency and availability. Text messages are used for brief, non-urgent updates and are not monitored continuously. For urgent concerns, please call the hospital directly at (405) 342-0663.

Visitation

We welcome visits whenever possible. Visitation is coordinated by our medical team and depends on your pet’s stability, hospital census, staffing, and ongoing treatments. Visit times and duration may vary, and visits may be limited or unavailable during periods of high patient volume.

Personal Belongings

Personal items such as toys, bedding, or collars may be lost or damaged and are left at your own risk.

Discharge or Transfer

Discharge timing is based on your pet’s medical status and staffing availability. If a transfer to another facility or specialty service is recommended, arrangements and costs are the owner’s responsibility unless otherwise specified.

Calm. Capable. Compassionate.

At City Paws Emergency Care, we believe that emergency care should be both clinical and compassionate. Our team combines advanced veterinary medicine with kindness and respect — for every pet and every person who walks through our doors.
